Port in Air is a young, dynamic theatre group from Cologne. The ensemble was founded in 2003 by Richard Aczel who teaches English Literature at the University of Cologne. It began as a group of English students wanting to experiment with theatre, but very quickly became a serious company, performing in professional theatres in Cologne.
Port in Air combines inexhaustible energy and rigorous discipline. It is a highly visual and musical theatre of fluid pictures perpetually moving to the pulse of embodied and disembodied speech.

Anecdote of the Jar
I placed a jar in Tennessee,
And round it was, upon a hill.
It made the slovenly wilderness
Surround that hill.
The wilderness rose up to it,
And sprawled around, no longer wild.
The jar was round upon the ground
And tall and of a port in air.
It took dominion every where.
The jar was gray and bare.
